Business Director, Checking Acquisition & Risk Policies

Capital One's Consumer Bank has been growing to become one of the most prominent banks in the United States, currently with an approximately $170B deposit portfolio. We are continuously investing in the areas of analytics, digital technology and simply meeting our customers’ needs in new and innovative ways.

This role is a critical leadership role, that will be responsible for leading our application stage policies and the suite of short term lending/overdraft coverage products we’re offering. The leader in this role will manage a team of analysts and product managers, in order to drive decisions around risk policies & customer experience. This team’s mission is helping American consumers gain financial resiliency while growing Capital One Bank, and the leader will move the team there through strategic leadership and coaching of the individual performers.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 6 to 10 associates & responsible for the work streams ranging from deep quantitative analytics to product discovery and policy optimization

  • Risk mitigation for various types of risks including brand, reputation, credit, and legal stemming from Checking policies

  • Explore new ways to serve consumers’ short term lending needs

  • Build out transparent and clear communications with customers regarding application stage and fee policy treatments

  • Ensure a healthy Checking P&L generating acceptable level of returns to shareholders

  • Be the customer for product development by our engineering and design teams

  • Collaborate with Marketing, Risk Management and Operations teams, while developing and deploying new strategies

  • Lead ad-hoc analyses in support of business recommendations & presentations to executives

  • Recruit new hires while evolving the team’s agenda, and participate in analyst recruiting efforts

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Engineering, Operations Research, Physics)

  • At least 7 years of analytics experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field or MBA

  • 10+ years of analytics and/or strategic consulting experience, including 5+ years of credit risk management

  • 5+ years of people management experience

  • Professional qualifications (CFA, FRM, etc)
