Director, Product Management Fraud

Fraud – when a customer’s credit card or personal information is stolen – is a defining and increasingly frequent moment in our customers’ financial lives. According to Experian, in 2017 alone 14 million credit card numbers and 158 million social security numbers were exposed. Increasingly, this type of activity is carried out by sophisticated international criminal organizations, who are constantly innovating and using the latest technologies to commit these crimes. Here on the Fraud Data and Infrastructure Team, we counter their efforts with real-time, automated, and intelligent technology of our own. We are unleashing our analysts, data scientists, and investigators by making fighting fraud effortless and continuously more powerful. We do that by building consumer-grade, associate-facing products and platforms to automate fraud detection and associated actions, democratize access and understanding of our data, and enable new ways of discovering and extinguishing fraud rings.

We’re looking for a product leader to drive our fledgling fraud platform - encompassing feature / metrics creation, discovery, and propagation; development and scoring platform for fraud detection models and rules; and our fraud response microservice platform, which includes a variety of different potential actions in response to fraud (e.g., restrict card from spending, send alert, etc.). The platform is young, in many places still at the concept stage, so we’re looking for someone to drive the strategy and vision of what it should look like and how it should interact with other products around the company, as well as to lead the execution of building it out in a sustainable, iterative manner. This role will include guiding, developing, and managing 3-5 direct product management reports who will drive the vision and execution of each primary platform component, in partnership with the associated engineering teams aligned with each component. It will also include working with our fraud intent and data science partners to align on which use cases are prioritized for the platform, in order to both create value and push the platform’s capabilities forward.

What you'll do:

  • Recruit, lead, develop and inspire a cross functional team of analysts, product managers, engineers, data scientists, and data engineers around this effort

  • Develop and manage platform strategy and delivery, including driving alignment with stakeholders of the shared vision and measuring results

  • Directly manage and develop a team of product managers each developing components of this fraud platform

  • Collaborate with internal partners. You will be exceptional at developing and nurturing relationships with key internal stakeholders in support of Capital One’s business goals.

  • Develop deep relationships with leaders across Fraud and its partners (e.g., data science) to truly understand their experience and ensure your platform supports their visions and strategic priorities

  • Ruthlessly prioritize platform roadmap against competing needs of business, technology, customer and well-managed agendas

  • Navigate any roadblocks that stem from being an early pioneer on new Cloud infrastructure

  • Technologies your engineering teams would be working with include our Streaming Data Platform, Spark, Dynamo, and microservice architecture, among others

What you’ll bring:

  • Blend of both strategic and tactical thinking- someone who can identify and prioritize opportunities in highly ambiguous contexts, and then organize thematic work areas in deep detail, thus aligning long term vision with iterative execution

  • A strong sense of great capability design, including microservice and interface definitions. You’ve got a history of maintaining capabilities that you’ve built and seeing them continue to evolve and grow with the users’ needs.

  • An understanding of and reverence for data and technical products

  • A bias toward action and a proven track record of delivering minimum viable products to market at rapid speed

  • Amazing product instincts. You are a creative expert in building and testing great user experiences and have a strong intuition for what people want or need. You have stories you could share about what problem you thought you were solving at first, but through testing and iteration, came to solve a much bigger and better problem that resulted in positive outcomes all-around.

  • Inspiring leadership skills. Someone with experience building, developing, and growing highly effective product teams, partnering with dedicated engineering support, and leading an ambitious agenda for growth.

  • Exceptional communication skills- someone who is an engaging storyteller and is at ease presenting to executives.

  • Ability to actively seek out multiple opinions, yet make independent decisions and influence positive outcomes
