Principal Machine Learning Scientist

Here in Plano, TX we are supporting our Financial Services division by using Machine Learning and AI to power signature consumer products and services that make searching, financing and re-financing their next car easier and fun!
As a Machine Learning Scientist at Capital One, you’ll be part of a team that’s leading the next wave of disruption at a whole new scale, using the latest in AI and Machine Learning and operating across massive datasets to unlock the big opportunities that help everyday people save money, time and difficulty in their auto buying and financing experience.
On any given day you’ll be:
Collaborating with a diverse set of partners and stakeholders from data science, business analysis, software engineering, product management, marketing and operations.
Designing, implementing and tuning deep learning models to enable large scale computer vision and image recognition capabilities enabling visual searches
Building models powering product recommenders for our car search service
Implementing deep reinforcement learning to help optimize marketing campaigns and consumer web/mobile experiences
Leveraging natural language processing to extract insights from massive amounts of unstructured data like agent notes and call center conversations
Making build vs use decisions on variety of open source products/implementations in AI/ML Space
The Ideal Candidate will be:
Technical: You have hands-on experience developing AI and Machine Learning solutions, from concept to production, and selecting the right algorithm/approach for the job at hand. You are familiar with available open source AI/ML platforms, especially in deep learning/neural network space and comfortable working in cloud environments.
Academically sound: Still remember your foundational computer science theory and statistics curriculum. Those good old courses in Data Structures, Design of Algorithms, Automata Theory, Optimization Methods, Statistical Modeling, Linear Algebra….do not scare you
Innovative: You continually research and evaluate emerging trends in ML/AI space. You stay current on published state-of-the-art ML methods, technologies, and frameworks. You ask why, explore and openly share your disruptive ideas.
Business Friendly: You can analyze customer needs, cut through ambiguity and propose analytical solutions that drive towards impactful business outcomes.

Bachelor’s Degree plus 2 years of experience in data analytics, or Master’s degree in computer science or with a Machine Learning focus plus 1 year of experience in data analytics, or PhD
At least 3 years programming experience in one or more of the following: Python, Scala, C/C++, R
At least 2 years experience building Machine Learning solutions over open source platforms (like TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, CNTK, Caffe, DSSTNE….)
At least 2 years experience designing and developing enterprise-scale ML solutions in one or more of: Computer Vision/Image Recognition, Product Recommendation System, Personalization, NLP, Clickstream Analytics, Marketing Response Models
At least 2 years experience evaluating and leveraging various deep learning approaches or Neural Network architectures (CNNs, RNNs…)
PhD with Machine Learning research focus
Academic thesis or published papers in ML space or robust public source code repository with ML solution(s)
Presentations or publications at top-tier AI/Machine Learning conferences
Open source contributions in ML space
Prior experience supporting consumer products/services or marketing applications
At least 1 year experience working in cloud environment
