Business Development Director - C4ML

Our Center for Machine Learning and Emerging Tech team is a leader in Capital One’s transformation into a technology company. The team is leading the change through generating value, deepening the brand, and creating better technology. This relatively new team is a key part of Capital One’s organization wide transition into a technology company and plays a meaningful role in building the long-term culture at Capital One.

What you'll be doing:

This new position is integral to an emerging team in Capital One’s technology department. This role will discover and evaluate technology opportunities across the organization and then support innovation, generating new value for Capital One in strategic areas of focus. The role will be a part of the Partnerships team in San Francisco.

General Responsibilities

  • Partner across technology to discover new opportunities within Capital One that could be innovative, delivering new value for the firm

  • Evaluate new technology product and/or service opportunities, performing market research, evaluating the market opportunity, competition, product, and current/prospective user feedback

  • Drive results to generate new value, deepen the brand as a leader in technology, and increase the value of tech products and/or services with a point of view on the investment areas Capital One should be pursuing

  • Develop processes and transition applicable products into execution, including but not limited to: influence short and long term product roadmaps, evaluate external pricing models and sales organizations with associated incentive plans

  • Perform market research on broader technology and investment trends, informing future strategy and deepening enterprise understanding of key technology trends

  • Manage a team and Indirectly manage cross functional teams and partners - supervise, plan and develop across teams and locations, proactively identifying and resolving strategic issues which may impact team progress

  • Cross functional partnership with key partners, prudently infusing diverse partner needs into business strategy

  • Perform marketplace and industry analyses with the goal of identifying innovation opportunities, and uncovering potential market and partner plays

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 7 years’ experience in one or a combination of: engineering, product management, private equity, venture capital, management consulting or investment banking

  • At least 5 years’ experience in people management

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a matrixed organization

  • At least 3 years’ experience working with financial statements, models, or research

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration and/or advanced engineering degree

  • Prior experience in business development role or corporate development role with a leading technology company, investment firm, fintech, or financial services firm

  • Experience building products to market to large corporate accounts

  • A strong track record of a desire to grow and learn in dynamic environments

  • Ability to independently plan, organize and prioritize in a complex, emergent strategic area of focus

  • Listening, communication and presentation skills with a track record with senior management

  • Experience building and maintaining relationships in a complex organization
