Lead Software Engineer - Full Stack

Capital One is seeking talented thinkers and senior engineers who can envision next generation software innovation. In this role, you will design and develop industry disrupting experiences for Capital One customers using existing and emerging technology platforms. You will be responsible for design decisions and developing software components. You will have opportunity to develop prototypes and proof of concept applications using open source frameworks, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD tools. You will also act as a mentor to junior developers, and will have oversight during implementation into production.

In this role as a Lead Software Engineer, you will:

  • Work with product owners to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios

  • Continuously improve software engineering practices

  • Support Capital One’s card technology team and play an integral part in automating the card user experience

  • Assist in providing the software development that enables Capital One customers to view real time updates on their account

  • Support Capital One’s migration into an AWS cloud computing environment

  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full stack of development tools and technologies

  • Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity

  • Support a tech stack that includes Java, AWS (Amazon Web Services), Spring, Apache Spark, MongoDB, Postgres, and DevOps (Jenkins, Docker, etc)

  • Support Micro Services Architecture with tools such as Apache Kafka, SDP, and MQ

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in Java or Object Oriented Programming languages

  • At least 5 years of experience managing software development projects through complete release cycles

  • At least 1 year of experience in one of the following Cloud technologies: AWS, Azure, Google, or OpenStack

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree

  • 3+ years of experience developing RESTful APIs using either Spring or Jersey

  • 3+ years of experience in one of the following: MS SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, No-SQL, MongoDB, or DynamoDB

  • 3+ years’ experience in one of the following Cloud technologies: AWS, Azure, Google, OpenStack

  • 5+ years’ experience in one of the following Build and CICD technologies: lSVN, GitHub, Maven, Jenkins, Nexus or Sonar, Docker, Ansible, Chef or Terraform

  • 4+ years’ experience with one of the following: HP Diagnostics, JMeter, Splunk, BlueStripe, CloudWatch or Zabbix

  • 4+ years’ experience with one of the following Agile methodologies: Scrum, SAFe, and/or Kanban

  • Formal certification in one of the following: Java, Spring, or AWS
